Spiritual Approaches

Joy, contentment and suffering are all woven into the fabric of each life.

Every person has developed strengths and attained some measure of success and happiness in their life. Eventually though some form of suffering has visited. Where we have choice and control are in how we meet and attend to suffering. For those interested I offer spiritual perspective/practice as an addition to the process of treatment.

Essential questions about suffering:

  • Can meaning or purpose evolve from it?
  • Are there gifts to be found there?
  • Might chaos be a form of creation and give birth to something new?
  • How might we create contentedness, happiness, joy and calm?
  • Can we enhance and elevate compassion and gratitude?
  • How do we accept change and let go?

Spiritual perspectives/practices

  • Buddhism and other spiritual teachings
  • mysticism
  • creative visualization
  • breath work
  • poetry of Rumi, Hafiz, David Whyte, Mary Oliver
  • yoga /dance /music

Spirituality or therapy?

Spiritual perspectives and practices are not substitutes for counseling or therapy. However neuroscience, psychology, brain and consciousness studies are verifying their value as powerful allies in the treatment process. Going within and exploring our deepest core self or expanding ourselves far beyond the mundane and routine in life can have enormous health and adaptive benefits.

Consider a spiritual practice or perspective.
